  • Linux-Magazine: A quick look at the latest Fedora [pdf 148KB] by Oliver Frommel
Issue July 2006 - "Fedora Core 5 comes with few mayor surprises, but the new Fedora is a modern and stable distribution with the latest server and desktop software."
  • NewsForge: My desktop OS: Fedora Core 5 by Michael Hampton
May 23, 2006 - "The Fedora Core 5 installation is just about the simplest installation available. It's been further simplified from previous versions of Fedora Core in the area of package selection. You simply choose which tasks you need to perform, such as Office/Productivity, Software Development, and Web Server."
  • TechRepublic: Fedora Core 5 frustrations by John Sheesley
May 18, 2006 - "As I said before, Fedora’s installation went great. And being based on GNOME 2.14, the interface is fast and reasonably friendly. Compared to KDE, it’s restrictive, but it gets the job done."
  • Henry the Adequate: Henry's Fedora Core 5 Install Guide

  • ITreviews: Fedora core 5
April 19, 2006 - Although I only presented the desktop side of FC5, it's a really reliable server as well, WikiPedia proves this. It was a really pleasant surprise when I felt the mentioned speed boost (compared to FC1), and saw the applications, although I missed xmms, k3b and even mplayer, which are both open source software, so I see no reason why they were omitted.
  • Oreilly: First Impressions: Fedora Core 5 by Caitlyn Martin in Reviews
April 18, 2006 - Overall, even with all the nits I’ve picked, I find Fedora Core 5 to be a very satisfying and much improved version of the popular distribution. Red Hat and their Fedora Project engineers have been quick to resolve bugs in the past and I am certain FC5 will improve as new updates become available. The improved performance in the new version far outweighs any bugs I’ve found in applications and this is one release I can recommend.
  • FreeBees Review: Fedora Core 5
12th April 2006 - What we can say immediately is that Fedora Core has improved in the months between this and the last release. The installer strikes me as the most polished part of Fedora, filled with pleasing touches. However, while the rest of the system is generally solid, there is some small instability that I never got with Fedora Core 4. There is also some post installation configuration required. While not necessarily a bad thing, how far you have to go just to get something such as Samba working is somewhat disconcerting.
  • eWeek: Fedora Core 5: Shape Shifter By Jason Brooks
April 10, 2006 - Review: Fast-moving distro works well in server, developer and desktop roles. Red Hat's Fedora Core 5, which hit the Internet late last month, shines in the server and developer roles with which Linux has come to be identified. In addition, for many scenarios, Fedora has matured enough to perform well as a mainstream corporate desktop.
  • nuxified: Fedora Core 5: A very personal review by charles
2006-04-03 "All in all, I am happy with my migration, notwithstanding the fact that I didn't lose one bit of my data. Fedora is a stable system that has some finition problem but it does the job, and, compared to my former Etch system, it does it without moaning not putting difficulties where they shouldn't be. Fedora will stay on my desktop for quite some time, although I didn't turn my back to Debian. Debian is still on our servers here, and will remain there for a long time.
  • theWeeklyRant.com: Trashing Fedora: Two weeks with Core 5 by Jonathon
2006-04-01 To conclude, I would recommend Fedora Core 5 to any hard core ‘free as in speach’ idealist as a nice distro with very up-to-date features. I would also recommend it to anyone thinking about making a career move toward Red Hat certification as the first baby steps.
  • kaiwai's Blog: Fedora Core 5 Review
April 01, 2006 - Over all, this is probably the best distribution I've tried; if you're looking for an easy to use, no fuss UNIX-like desktop, look no further than Fedora Core 5; it provides good balance of what we the consumer love the best, the most up to date software, stability whilst at the same time providing prompt support (except for that Banshee issue, but I have a feeling most are happy with using Rhythmbox without too much fuss).
  • OSnews: A Quick Look at Fedora Core 5 by Eugenia Loli-Queru
2006-03-26 In conclusion, this is the first Fedora Core version that I can honestly trust as my desktop and use without having thoughts of its competition doing it better. SuSE and Ubuntu will have to try harder this time to beat this Fedora.
  • LinuxForums: Fedora Core 5 Review by Clement Lefebvre
2006-03-22: "But apart from these little details I can confidently say that Fedora Core 5 is the best desktop GNU/Linux distribution available at the moment. Suse and Ubuntu are working on their next release, for sure this Fedora release placed the bar higher than it has ever been before. A giant step was made in making Linux ready for the desktop and “Bordeaux” is proof of this.
  • Lunapark6: Fedora Core 5 Review
2006-03-21 "There was enough glitches in the second install, that I can say if you have a Nvidia card or a motherboard with the Nvidia nForce chipset, you should look elsewhere for a linux o.s. or be prepared to do a fair amount of tweaking.
