  • Linux Magazine: DVD Playback in SUSE Linux 10
by Jason Perlow Nov 30, 2005 - "Imagine my surprise, however, when I discovered that DVD playback capability was intentionally crippled in the Open Source version of SuSE Linux 10. Whoa! Or should I say, Scheiße...!" "I must say I am dazzled with SuSE Linux 10's performance and its plethora of features and bleeding-edge enhancements. The distribution is a power user's delight. It's that good. In fact, I think every advanced user looking for a state-of-the art Linux distribution should go to http://www.opensuse.org and download a copy right now, especially if you have a PC with a 64-bit chip, such as the Pentium 4 HT or the AMD Athlon FX/64. If SuSE Linux 10 were a car, it'd be a BMW 760i or a Mercedes S-Klasse S55 AMG.

It has been extremely stable during my use. • ZDnet Full Review: SuSE Linux 10.0
by Peter Judge - November 14, 2005 - SUSE Linux 10 isn`t just for home users, although it does include a tempting array of applications. At a very cheap price, users get Windows-like OS functionality, a full-blown productivity suite, and more. Meanwhile business users will be impressed by an email client that works very much like Outlook, and the ability to access and use corporate resources. IT managers should also like SUSE Linux`s security features, while the support burden should be reasonably low given that the bundled applications -- particularly OpenOffice and Evolution -- are relatively straightforward for users to learn.
  • Groklaw: Think Linux Is Too Hard? Take a Look at SUSE 10.0
2005-10-25: On the whole, I am very happy with OpenSuse 10 -- it is smooth, trouble-free and extremely easy to use. I would be very happy to put a Windows user in front of it with 10 minutes of instruction, and I am certain that they would be happily productive at a BASIC level in minutes. I give it my highest reccomendation and congratulations to OpenSuse for an extremely powerful, professional and -- dare I say it?.

2005-10-25 - Overall though, 10.0 it`s much improved over SuSE 9.3. For older hardware like this one I tested it with, it`s kinda slower — installing packages with YaST2 is much slower than a Synaptic would be, but it`s a small price to pay...

2005-10-25 - Still, the bottom line is that SUSE has remained a very strong distribution on Novell`s watch, and its availability as a cost-free download can only increase its exposure both within the Open Source community and on the general computing scene.

  • Linux-Noob: Getting places with Suse Linux OSS 10 ?
By Niall C. Brady, October 2005 - However, that said, Suse Linux OSS 10 is well worth a look, and I`m sure Suse will continue to dominate the linux distro world. This release, gets a 7/10 from me. The three marks I took away, are directly related to the wireless support (-2) and video resolution problems (-1). Better luck next time Suse, I really want to give you a 10/10.

Oct 23, 2005 "Without a doubt, OpenSUSE was one of the biggest announcements of the 2005... and for good reason. SUSE has always been one of the most popular Linux distros on the planet. As of this writing DistroWatch has it ranked as the #3 distro, coming in after Ubuntu at #1 and Mandriva at #2. SUSE has always been at the top of their game and judging by the numbers they still are. Is it worth the download? Is it worth our time? We`re here to take a look..."

  • DektopLinux: First look: SUSE 10 -- where`s the dot-one?
by Alan Canton (Oct. 18, 2005) - This is the first effort in "openness" from Novell, and it`s a good one, all in all. But this is a dot-zero release, and it looks and acts like one in many respects. I`m looking forward to the dot-one version, where I hope the "fit and finish" is done to a higher standard... along the lines of my favorite distro, Kanotix.
